Dietary advice Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (DMT2)

  • Several small meals a day.
  • Eat low calorie but nutrient-rich food .
  • Avoid where possible, all types of sugar.
  • Law calorie energy drinks, such as herbal tea and water.
  • Eat fruits with low G.I. (apple, pear). (G.I. = Glycemic Index)
  • Eat a lot of low G.I. vegetables – they are high in fibre and full of antioxidants.
  • Only eat whole grains, brown rice, wholemeal bread.
  • Quality proteins (chicken,  sugar free yoghurt, soft curd low fat cheese, lean red meat, Soya).
  • Healthy essential fatty acids, (more omega-3!, olive oil).
